Every year millions of Americans become dog bite victims. Dog bites are serious, and medical attention should be your first priority. The annual cost estimate of dog bites in the United States exceeds one billion dollars a year. At Hardy Law Group, we will ensure that you get fully compensated for all your injuries and damages.
In Nevada, pet owners have a legal obligation to control their animals. In some circumstances, the dog/pet owner may be "strictly liable" or absolutely liable for your injuries. The majority of dog bite injuries occur at a home of a friend or family member. In Nevada, the pet owner and the owner of a property may be held liable for these injuries. In most dog bite cases, the pet owner's insurance covers the cost of compensation for your injuries, and the friend or family member will not be financially responsible for paying for your injuries. If you have been injured by a dog owned by a friend, relative, or neighbor, don't hesitate to talk to us about how to proceed with your injury claim.
If you or a family member has been bitten by a dog or other pet, contact HARDY LAW GROUP immediately at 775 786-5800, to discuss your injury and how we can get you full compensation. Hardy Law Group is committed to investigating your case immediately so that we can protect all of your recovery rights available under the law.
WHAT TO DO IF BITTEN BY AN ANIMAL.
- Contact Animal Control and report the incident and request immediate on-scene assistance.
- If animal control cannot or will not come to the scene, contact the police department and request immediate on-scene assistance.
- Seek medical attention. Get medical attention as quickly as possible after being attacked and strictly follow all doctor instructions relating to your care. Get medical attention soon because any delay in getting medical attention may negatively affect your eligibility for a claim.
- If safe, try to ID the animal. This will assist with your medical care as well as the potential case against the owner or property owner. Knowing whether an animal has had rabies or other shots will save you from unnecessary painful medical treatment, which you may need if the animal cannot be identified.
- If you cannot safely ID the animal, try and keep track of the animal until help arrives.
- Collect the names, phone numbers and addresses of all witnesses.
- Take photos of all injuries immediately. This will accurately preserve the nature and extent of your injuries.
- Take photos of the dog.
- Keep and maintain all clothing which was torn or damaged.
